Artist Bio

“Where your fear is, there is your task.” – Carl Jung

Tea Sirén (b. 1996) is a visual artist based in Helsinki, who began her bachelor’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, in 2024. She is fascinated by the politics of exposure and shame: how the body, identity, control and commercial phenomena are constructed in both physical and digital environments.

Her main methods are pencil drawing, performance, photography, and video and analysis of objects, symbols, and ideas. In her work, a naïve and inquisitive gaze bypasses distancing irony, and she especially examines Western representations of identity and symbols of power.

Sirén also continues to work as a designer and is an activist for human and animal rights. She believes that both perspectives on society enrich her artistic practice.

Art Journalism

I’ve been involved in experimental free form art journalism mainly through video zine IKITOMU. If I had to pick one clip, it would probably be this piece of my first trip to La Biennale in 2022 (https://vimeo.com/1051835327). I feel that my reactions represent my desperate search for authenticity in art.
